Having always had the temperament of an artist, I traveled a long journey to fulfill this inclination. In 1991 I landed on the steamy shores of a glass blowing studio, and have been at home in the hot shop ever since. My blown glass beads are very dear to me, I've spent years designing and creating them. I love the idea of being a part of such a long history! ---The first items made from glass, some 5000 years ago were beads! Hard to imagine you could add to that tradition in an original way but I am happy to say that is exactly what we've done. I spent my first years as a glass blower learning traditional venetian techniques so I could later put my own spin on things. Now with the help of my team, in my own studio, I can make colorful, blown glass beads, vases, paperweights and sculpture. www.atlanticartglass.com www.atlanticartglass.etsy.com www.atlanticartglass.blogspot.com |

Sorrento Silver I create hand-fabricated sterling silver jewelry in my studio by the sea in rural Maine. My work and designs echo the beauty and organic shapes in the natural world around me. I create blossoms, leaves, geometric shapes, and the flowing shapes of water streaming over rocks. There are few things as satisfying for me as designing and fabricating silver .. . from the idea that wakes me in the night, to seeing the metal transformed by the heat of my torch and the force of my hammer blows, adding details with my chasing tool, and softening edges with a file. In the end, the fabrication process always seems a bit miraculous as a lovely piece of silver jewelry emerges bunished by the tumbler. Rather than working in a highly technical, or modern style, my style is deliberately a bit rustic, and I love to leave marks from my hand on my finished pieces. |
Marko Schmitt
|
Marko Schmitt is a painter who lives in the coastal village of Sorrento on Frenchman’s Bay. Largely self-taught, Marko began painting full-time when he moved to Maine ten years ago. He works in pastels, oils and acrylics, painting in the style of “American Impressionism,” depicting his subjects with lush, loose, strokes and thick applications of color. He is continually inspired by the rugged seacoast of his adopted home. His first studio show, in 2001, included over 30 pictures exploring the interaction of boats, water, islands, and the light on the harbor outside his home. More than half those paintings sold. Since then he has shown regularly and his work is collected by local Mainers as well as visitors from around the country. In 2008, he was selected as the featured artist of the Schoodic Arts Festival. Marko is continuously dedicated to developing his craft and skills in drawing, mixing colors, and working with oils and pastels. His subject matter often explores the marine landscape, but he also paints still lifes and abstracts reflecting his ongoing interest in natural lighting effects and the beauty of the Maine coast. A co-founding member of SevenArts in Ellsworth, Marko’s work can also be in a number of local galleries. Marko is a member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists and the Laguna Plein Arts Painters Association in California. Marko's website is: www.downeastwest.com |

Heirloom Tileworks, known for a unique collection of high relief art tiles, is a design studio located on the rocky coastline of Maine. The scenic charm, wildlife and conifer forests have been a great inspiration in developing the tile themes. My present line has been created through personal inspirations and greatly enhanced with commissions from local clients sharing the same inspiration and appreciation for Maine's natural beauty. |
